Andrew West is a fantasy author and editor based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His work spans dark fantasy, epic fantasy, and romantasy, as well as literary fiction and magical realism, often blending sweeping mythic elements with intimate, character-driven storytelling. Across genres, his writing explores power dynamics, identity, love and sacrifice, and the resilience of powerful, often female, voices facing impossible odds.
Andrew’s prose leans lyrical without losing its grounding, balancing emotional depth with moments of whimsy and epic scale. He draws inspiration from a lifelong love of old stories and old magic: Greek mythology, medieval literature, folklore, and the quiet weight of history that lingers beneath modern narratives. Rather than chasing trends or comparisons, his work focuses on atmosphere, voice, and the emotional truths that anchor even the most fantastical worlds.
With a background in English Literature and creative writing, Andrew has spent more than a decade honing his craft. Though King’s Command: The Unchosen Queen marks his debut novel, it represents the culmination of ten years of writing and world-building, with numerous completed manuscripts waiting in the wings. The novel is the first installment in a planned romantasy series.
Outside of writing, Andrew is the owner of an editorial and storytelling business that helps authors and small business owners refine their voices across manuscripts, websites, and social platforms. When he’s not writing or editing, he can usually be found playing pickleball, gaming, reading, cooking, or preparing elaborate Halloween costumes… complete with hand-crafted special effects makeup for a holiday he takes very seriously.
